سار فيل وحيد عبر الغابة، بحثًا عن أصدقاء. سرعان ما رأى قردًا فسأله: هل يمكننا أن نكون أصدقاء يا قرد؟

أجاب القرد بسرعة: أنت كبير ولا يمكنك التأرجح على الأشجار كما أفعل، لذلك لا يمكنني أن أكون صديقك.

استمر الفيل في البحث حتى عثر على أرنب، وسأله: هل يمكننا أن نكون أصدقاء يا أرنب؟

استمر الفيل في سؤال الحيوانات التي قابلها في طريقه، لكنه دائمًا يتلقى الرد نفسه. في اليوم التالي، رأى الفيل جميع حيوانات الغابات تجري في خوف. فأوقف دبًْا يسأله عما كان يحدث، قيل له أن النمر بدأ يهاجم جميع الحيوانات الصغيرة.

أراد الفيل إنقاذ الحيوانات الأخرى، لذلك ذهب إلى النمر وقال: من فضلك يا سيدي، اترك أصدقائي وشأنهم، لا تأكلهم.
